The weekend brings with it good times in the Harbour; music, dining, shopping and getting outside to enjoy some of best natural venues on the planet.

Friday night at the Clubhouse dine in the beautiful setting of the Pender Harbour Golf Club while enjoying the music of Etienne Siew & Graham Strong. Sunday, the fabulous Blue Line Duo will entertain with nonstop tunes and delightful dialogue from 2 to 5 p.m. on the Patio. The food, the drinks, the warm hospitality will complete your weekend in the very best way.

Saturdays are for fun times in downtown Madeira Park. Tour the Millennium Park and take in all the waterfront action. Up the stairs the Harbour Gallery showcases the masterpieces of local artists and gift items. The Madeira Market in the Hall’s courtyard has a variety of friendly vendors and their offerings including dahlia bouquets, pottery, oils and potions, jewelry, and pet goodies. Come visit. Come shop. The very talented singer-songwriter Matt Richards will be making a guest appearance.

Tony’s Triple B’s has delicious takeout for all the family. Take a seat at the picnic tables and watch the sights go by. Take a stroll or drive down to the Legion, the current location for the Bargain Barn, open Saturdays and Wednesdays noon to 3 p.m. Donations accepted Wednesday’s noon to 3 p.m. at the Bargain Barn’s home base (two bags minimum per person).

Harbourside Friend-ships this Thursday, Sept. 17 at the courtyard by the Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. will safely take you “Armchair Traveling” to a surprise destination. Bring a folding chair. Pack a lunch and enjoy a trip.

This past week with the Harbour area in a haze of smoke I am thankful we have come through this challenging summer without a local forest fire. In all the years I have lived here, this summer felt like an invasion of careless, selfish folks hit the Harbour acting like this was the lawless Wild West. Since March when COVID began with protocols and health advisories, including only “essential travel,” the north Sunshine Coast suffered a nonstop influx of non-resident people. The Airbnb across from where I live was full, fit to burst from March on. Many of the long-time residents in my neighbourhood are senior, very senior, many with health issues in the high-risk category. They have survived the last six months with no choice but to self-isolate. I hope now, into September, our paradise that was lost will be restored.

Now we must think of our younger generations as they return to school. Following the protocols to keep safe is the new, evolved, civilized way to be. Community care is paramount. We can do this. We must do this. Contact me with your news at dilysanne@hotmail.com for the Friday edition of the Coast Reporter.
