Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week and survived our first major snowfall of this winter season. Although snow changed to rain quickly, we did have a day or two bounding around in the backyard playing in the snow. We noticed some pretty interesting snowmen in the neighbourhood. Well done everyone and very creative!

As I was watching the birds flitting about our bird feeder, I noticed a commotion in the holly tree. These were larger birds than the towhees, juncos and chickadees so had to take a closer look. Turns out they were robins plucking at the berries. I was amazed at how many berries a robin can eat at one time. Just a few days prior, the tree was filled with clumps of these bright, red berries and now there seems to be far less. It’s nice to know that the robins and other birds can find food during the winter months without humans having to provide for them. Soon we will hear their song in the morning and evening when the weather changes and the promise of spring is in the air.

The Halfmoon Bay Community Association recently said goodbye and good luck to one of their longtime board members, Toni Morris. Toni has been an integral part of the board for many years and along with countless hours volunteering in the community, she has held positions on the board as vice-president, treasurer and secretary. Toni coordinated the Silent Auction at the Annual Halfmoon Bay Country Fair for years, sourced and ordered all the food for the Salmon BBQ, and greeted ticket holders at the door at concerts and Breakfast with Santa. Toni also helped coordinate the Annual Easter Egg Hunt held at Coopers Green Park. Toni was amazing to work alongside at these events and she will be greatly missed by the board and the community. Although Toni is stepping down from her role on the board, she promises to be available to help out at events the association will be hosting in the future. Thank-you for all that you’ve done and will do, Toni! You are the very best!

Along with saying goodbye to one board member, the association would also like to welcome another. Linda McMahon has offered to be the interim secretary and will be voted in as secretary at the next HBCoA AGM, which is scheduled for June. Linda is fairly new to Halfmoon Bay and has embraced this community as if she’s been here for many years. Linda has volunteered in every aspect of community associations and non-for-profit organizations and brings with her an amazing amount of experience. Linda looks forward to being part of the board and volunteering more in this wonderful place we call Halfmoon Bay. The Halfmoon Bay Community Association welcomes you aboard, Linda!

Be safe, be gentle and always be kind.
