Halfmoon Bay: Run Until It Burns on Sunday

Halfmoon Bay Volunteer Fire Department is holding its 10k Fun Run this Sunday, Oct. 20: Run Until It Burns. The route meanders through our community from Firehall #2 on Fawn Road to Firehall #1 on Redrooffs Road. Walkers begin at 9 a.m., runners at 10 a.m. There will be water along the way and refreshments at the finish line.

Afterwards, drop into the HMB Apple Festival!

Community thanks go out to Sophia Hodges, a local student at Chatelech Secondary School who has volunteered her time to design Halfmoon Bay Community Association advertising and posters for this year’s Apple Festival.

This Sunday, Oct. 20, is the 11th annual AppleFest at Coopers Green, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., fun for the whole family. Enjoy soups by HMB Cafe, candy apples, kids’ fun, apple crafts, handmade knives, pony rides, and music by Pipes and Drums, Coast Strings, Uke’n-do-its and other local artists. Halfmoon Bay School’s Community Garden needs some love! If there are any gardening enthusiasts interested in helping either in the garden or the growing tower, please contact Wendy at 604-551-8461. The school also has a large number of fall bulbs arriving soon. If you have containers 14” in length or diameter or larger, they could use them at the school!

The school will be hosting their first Family Book Club meeting of the year in the school library at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 and will be discussing The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. Contact Wendy for more information or if you would like to borrow a copy of the book.

The first HMB Tween Night of the year will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the school. They welcome all grades 5 to 7 students for some Halloween fun!

Pickleball is cancelled this Monday, Oct. 21 as the school gym in use for the federal election. For more information, email Don Cunliffe doncunliffe@gmail.com, or Tim Dayton tim.j.dayton@gmail.com.

Two good news stories: Peter and Kirsten, owners of HMB General Store, welcomed a beautiful little girl into their lives. Mother and daughter are doing well.

Secondly, an anonymous benefactor went into the HMB General Store last weekend when it was busy and announced they would pay for everyone’s groceries. The bill paid was over $900. Thank you, whoever you are!

Celebrated musician Simon Paradis and friends will be performing at Coopers Green Hall Nov. 23 to promote his new CD. Simon’s talent and musical ability are at their best among friends. Tickets will be on sale soon. Tickets at HMB General Store, Welcome Woods Market and Pastimes in Sechelt.

To have your say at the Bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at teknight@telus.net or 604-885-5034.
