Goodies, treats and the school year so far

Hi everyone! Hope you all had an awesome week. We had some beautiful weather after dealing with the smoke, then the wind and rain storm, so these sunny days were certainly welcome and enjoyed.

Hi everyone! Hope you all had an awesome week. We had some beautiful weather after dealing with the smoke, then the wind and rain storm, so these sunny days were certainly welcome and enjoyed.

West Coast Nibbles is another home-based local business in Halfmoon Bay. It is a small family-run bakery that prides itself on delivering value to its customers. Renée and Trevor Connors provide a variety of breads, cookies, cakes and treats through a weekly delivery service in Halfmoon Bay and at various farmers’ markets across the Sunshine Coast.

Renee said, “I’ve been baking my whole life, but my career and motherhood pushed it away for a while. I worked in bakeries for several years, but ultimately settled down with a desk job that just wasn’t satisfying.” After years of daydreaming about opening her own bakery, an opportunity presented itself last year and Renee jumped at the chance. “The response has been overwhelming and now I’ve grown West Coast Nibbles into something that enables me to do what I love and be more involved in my community.”

West Coast Nibbles has been Renee’s dream come true and she is so excited for the future! The most important part of Renee’s business is providing value in her baked products. “I’m well aware of the sentiment, ‘I’d love to buy local if I could afford it,’ and because of that I work hard to ensure that my products are accessible to everyone.” Visit West Coast Nibbles on Facebook and Instagram. Contact Renée for weekly deliveries of bread, cookies and school-friendly treats. Yum!

How is the school year looking so far? I checked in on some parents, students and teachers to see how they are coping. One parent said, “Overall, it’s going well. My kids were initially a little weirded out by all the masks and protocols, but they’ve been going to and coming home from school generally happy. It’s been a little tough as a parent, feeling extra disconnected not being allowed to enter the school. I still haven’t met my son’s teacher!” Another parent said their children are doing as well as can be expected with all the rules and procedures. “Wearing a mask all day can be uncomfortable especially during gym class, but the kids are coping and doing what works best for them.” One student said, “It’s hard not to get down about everything and feel afraid of the future. We live day to day and try to support each other as much as possible.” Teachers and staff continue to monitor and follow the safety rules and hope that this new normal will help keep everyone safe, positive and healthy. Hats off to all of you!
