Good eats in Roberts Creek

Like some of you, I have been experimenting in the kitchen as a replacement for a social life.

Like some of you, I have been experimenting in the kitchen as a replacement for a social life. The rise and fall of the sourdough in my house was quite spectacular and as bricks of my failures stack up, I will make one final dump of the goo and move on. I hope my septic field can take it, I know my waistline will thank me. Who wants to cook in the summer anyway?

Look at the great choices we have in the Gumboot Nation! Across from the Gen we have our namesake establishments, the Gumboot Restaurant and the Café... David has the Resto busy as ever with takeout dishes and pre-made meals, open for take away from noon to 7 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekend. Have a gander at the menu at gumboot
restaurant.com and call 604-885-4216 to order.

Short steps across the parking lot is the Café. Joe DeLeo has been pouring his heart into this place for more than 20 years and it shows. Open every day 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with revolving breakfast specials, sweets, fantastic coffee and regular menu items (pizza!). Tables outside, front and back.

Sharkey’s Fish Locker has some very loyal clientele and the best fresh, frozen, smoked and take-away fish (and chips!) on the Sunshine Coast, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. 1397 Roberts Creek Rd., call 604-885-0844 to order, pay in cash or credit at pick-up.

You can enjoy take out or deck dining at the Golf Course, Wednesday to Sun-day, 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Tuesdays at the Hall, it’s fusion food JapaThai! Have a look at www.insta-gram.com/japathaifood to see the ever changing menu. Email japathaifood@outlook.com or call 587-435-6393 to pre-order by Monday evening, pick-up is 1 to 6 p.m.

I wished Rashmi a happy birthday this week and it got me news that Curry in the Creek is on a short break but back in September.

On to the Legion, more eats options than ever! Anne and the Wilde Kitchen (reminds me of James and the Giant Peach, but I digress) serve Friday 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday noon to 4 p.m. with a local goat rillette this week! Maudy’s Famous BBQ is also cooking at the #219! A great addition to our choice of nourishment. Mostly burgers and smokies but I will use my public platform to request ribs! Eating ribs is “like making love to a xylophone.” Thursday 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday 4 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 6 p.m.

On the live music front in the coming weeks: Friday, Aug. 7: Kitty and the Rooster, Saturday, Aug. 8: Petunia (added matinée Sunday at 2!) and Friday, Aug. 14: Brothers in Farms Album Release. Get your tix before they sell out! rclegionevents.com yo!

Slow Sundays brings more decoration for our time, Aug. 9, the eclectic mix of Whirlwinds Woodwind Quintet followed by Double Treble and Friends. Starts 1 p.m. behind the library

Beginning Thursday, the pottery duo of Futter-man and Allegretti at Creek Clayworks brings you A Pottery Sale for Unprecedented Times Aug. 13 to 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all four days. Outdoors, masks required, social distancing in effect, 1738 Lockyer Rd. Info: 604-885-2395; www.creekclayworks.ca
