Saturday downtown in Madeira Park, park the car, grab your mask and go on a walking, shopping, sightseeing spree. Madeira Market in the centre of town, in the courtyard, has an ever-changing variety of vendors including Huckleberry Studio Pottery and Beads and Blooms. Masks for sale by donation. Harbour Gallery, just a stroll towards the waterfront has masterpieces in a multitude of mediums from our incredibly talented local artists. Down the steps to Millennium Park and the Government Dock you just might find fresh-caught delicacies to purchase. The views of the Harbour are the best from the Gazebo. Back up the street, the Legion is the temporary home to The Bargain Barn, a shopper’s heaven. August is inventory reduction month so come cash in on the best bargains ever.

The Fibre Works exhibit, Shifting Landscapes, on now continues through Oct. 25 at 12887-12889 Sunshine Coast Hwy.

This Sunday on the sunny, spacious Clubhouse Patio, 2 to 5 p.m. the incredibly talented Karl Kirkaldy will be in the house to entertain you. Fine food, cool drinks, award-winning hospitality, not to mention the big beautiful vistas – The Clubhouse is the place to be for an exceptionally good time.

More music to enjoy later in the week, Thursday, Aug. 27 when Harbourside Friendship presents the very British, funny and talented music man Eddy Edrick. Join the gathering starting at 10:30 a.m. in the courtyard at The Hall. Pack a lunch, bring a chair.

Rather than talk about the ferries I want to applaud the fine folks at Harbour Air for perfectly wonderful service. Try flying. You will enjoy it, to say the least. I recently took eight flights with my senior rescue dog Sol to a specialist to try to save his eye. Our travel stress was minimized, and we made every appointment on time. Thanks for such kind care, pilots Eric and Kyle, dock crew and all the HA team. Sol has his sight back!

Our local paradise with all of its fine offerings must be respected. Respect our heroes on the front lines; those who are at high risk doing their job, providing gracious service day in day out to the public. I am appalled by the huge numbers of people totally shunning the government protocols and drivers talking on their cell phones. This is not the Wild West. Blatant display of disrespect is sickening and dangerous. There is a global pandemic and numbers on the rise for round two in B.C.

Be kind, safe, calm, respectful. Follow the protocols. We are in this together. Don’t be selfish. It could be deadly.
