For the third time, Squamish teen Teigen Pascual is ending her Canadian BMX season as the top girl in Canada — and as top Canadian Overall National Woman.

“She was really excited to get this trophy again,” her dad Luis Pascual told The Chief in an email.

Pascual has won top girl in her category three times since 2013.

The final race was held at Chilliwack Heritage Park, with multiple Squamish riders competing across different categories. Pascual took first place in 15-16 Expert Girls back-to-back.

Griffin Spencer was first for striders. In the mixed 7-8 open, Squamish’s Jack Westwood took fifth and Skye Sherman earned eighth. In the 17-20 open, Jeremy Pope came in third. Brian Goldstone finished in second place in the 46-50 intermediate, while Miriam Bailey ended in first place for the 51-55 woman cruiser.

“Canada Grands is always really fun and full of anxious moments and stress as there are riders from all parts of Canada and the USA that attend,” Luis said.

“This win is exciting and she is very happy, however, her season is far from over as she also race[s] in the USA BMX series.”

In two weeks, Pascual will be in Houston, Texas, to train with the Canadian Junior Development Program before she takes on a National race and the final American Grands in Oklahoma next month. Over three days in November, more than 3,000 riders will compete.

Her usual training in Squamish includes strength and conditioning coaching as well as BMX-specific coaching. While she trains in the gym four to five days a week, Pascual also trains on her bike up to six days a week.

After this season, Pascual will be racing junior girls in the National series on the supercross hill — the same hill used in the Olympics. Her dad said she will probably race at least one world cup race.
