Another popular Squamish event bites the dust for 2020, due to the pandemic.

The 25th Annual Brackendale Fall Fair, which was slated for Sept. 12 has been cancelled.

At this time, all event organizers are ordered to limit all public gatherings larger than 50 people, due to the virus.

This family-friendly fair in honour of all things farming joins dozens of other Squamish summer events that have had to be cancelled due to the virus, including Squamish Loggers Sports Festival and the Squamish Constellation Festival, both of which would have run in recent weeks under normal circumstances.

The festival was also called off in 2018 due to a lack of volunteer support, but was back up and running in 2019.

"The Brackendale Farmers Institute holds optimism for a return to hosting the Brackendale Fall Fair in the future when COVID-19 is behind us as a memory of the time when we lost loved ones, we took care of our families and friends, and life turned chaotic, chugged on or slowed down completely," said fair producer Glenne Campbell in a news release about the cancellation.

Since the inception of the Farmers Institute in 1915, countless generations have attended the Fall Fair.

Campbell notes that the Institute survived:a pandemic in 1918; Two world wars, one depression and 10 recessions.

"Proof that the farmer does in fact feed us all, through thick and thin," she said.

"Now more than ever, we need to support our local farmers, food processors, and artisans."

Campbell said she was grateful to past volunteers, in particular year-round volunteer, Derek Smith.

"One wonderful man who maintains the BFI Park so you can enjoy an outdoor walk, picnic, or solitude. When you see him, greet him and congratulate him for providing a space loved by many. You might even offer some assistance in park maintenance," she said.

Just because the fair is off, doesn't mean people can't participate this year.

Photos and videos can be entered for the Exhibit Competition.

They will be published on the BFI website.

Include your name and category of Entry.

No entry fee or prizes this year, however.

"Thank you, everyone, for your support in the past and the future," Campbell said.
