LETTER: To the Squamish community...

After spending ample time in Squamish over the last couple of years, my fiancée and I finally moved here two weeks ago and we already know it was the right decision.

After spending ample time in Squamish over the last couple of years, my fiancée and I finally moved here two weeks ago and we already know it was the right decision.

Your positive vibes, drive for adventure, empathy for one another, and willingness to dig in and help are unmatched qualities by any other community.

This past weekend’s incident at the gondola impacted us directly as we were scheduled to be married there in a few weeks. We are grateful to hear that no one was injured or killed. We are sorry to hear that this has already impacted the livelihoods of many staff members and others. I hope to hear positive news regarding opportunity and/or support for those affected.

The Squamish community is a resilient one and the support and offerings we’ve received directly from complete strangers to help us re-plan the wedding has been heart-warming and is a complete reassurance that this is where we want to grow old together. For that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I suspect that those who are responsible will be found and will face severe consequences.

We know we aren’t the only couple affected by the venue change and we certainly know that our situation is pale in comparison to the amount of damage that occurred, for those who face employment uncertainty, and other local businesses that may be impacted in the weeks coming.

Our love and support go out to all those affected and hopefully, we will have the opportunity to support you, even if all I can do is buy you a beer when we cross paths.

Squamish, thank you. You’re awesome.

Connor and Mia McCardle
