LETTER: From a proud gondola volunteer

Since the disaster at the gondola over the weekend I have observed social media in particular, the number of Squamish residents who have stated that they will not renew their annual pass nor will they go to the gondola once it is reopened.

Since the disaster at the gondola over the weekend I have observed social media in particular, the number of Squamish residents who have stated that they will not renew their annual pass nor will they go to the gondola once it is reopened. I have been a volunteer at the Sea to Sky Gondola since it opened, over five years ago, and know the staff all take great pride in the safety and security of the equipment as well as everyone who visits the gondola.

Sue Dixon, the mountain operations manager, and her staff, go through rigorous procedures each and every day from the time they test at the opening until they shut down the gondola at the end of each day.

The gondola staff takes great pride in their work and is very diligent in maintaining the equipment, the cars, and all of the supporting equipment within the entire complex, from what I have seen.

This incident has been preliminarily classified, by the local RCMP, as a deliberate act of vandalism targeting the Gondola and the lift system in particular.

It is time for everyone to “take a chill pill” and let the RCMP, and gondola management, complete the investigation and work towards having our gondola repaired, and up and running, as soon as possible.
