Drugs and drug paraphernalia found at schools

On two separate instances over the past week, local school staff found small quantities of drugs and some drug paraphernalia on school grounds. While the RCMP continues to work with individual schools and the Sea to Sky school district and local health authorities to maintain public safety, police encourage parents to talk to their children about what to do if any of these types of items are seen.

Counterfeit money

On three separate occasions during the first week of September, various forms of fraudulent currency were passed at businesses in Squamish. Each time, alert staff stopped the fraudulent transactions by reporting the incidents to the RCMP. The Bank of Canada website has helpful tips to prevent this type of fraud at www.bankofcanada.ca, as does www.rcmp.ca.

Mischief to mailboxes

During the past week, on two separate occasions, mailboxes were pried open causing damage in the 39000 block of Government Road. RCMP have not received any reports of theft of mail, however, and Canada Post has been notified.

Bear calls

The RCMP had two bear calls from the Valleycliffe area over the past week. The bears were gone when police officers arrived. Conservation officers were notified.

Anyone with any information about any crime is asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
