Freshcuts Squamish owner Moe Cheikh says his team has the technique and skills to make a customer keep coming back.

Edmonton-born Moe says that his career as a barber was almost inevitable. "I had a passion since I was about 17 years old. I was the type of dude who was at the barbershop every Friday. I always was meticulous, I just wanted to look fresh for the weekend."

After completing his schooling with the Mr. Barber training group five years ago, Cheikh was relentless in his devotion to excellence in craft. He would volunteer at homeless shelters, giving haircuts for free, to hone different techniques until he could perform them flawlessly. "I would practice hair tattoos and fades," he says, "and the guys always got a kick out of what I could do for them."

Cheikh always knew he wanted to open his own shop. Aside from his passion for his work, he loves the atmosphere of a barbershop. "The way they feel when they come in, and how they feel even better when they leave. I like that I can impress people: they walk in curious, then walk out impressed."

Cheikh says that he and the other barber he employs, Casey Beaulieux, work really hard to make their place of work fun. "There's always music bumping, and everyone is laughing," he chuckles. "You don't get to leave my chair if you don't crack a laugh with me."

He notes that his shop welcomes everyone of all genders and ages who wants "a fresh fade or cut", and that there are colouring books and toys for children, as well as age appropriate music.

Cheikh opened his doors on February 7th of this year and chose to make Squamish his new home because he was attracted to a small-town vibe and the growth of the community. He is excited to grow his business in the city, saying he's confident it will attract many lifelong customers because "if you're providing good services, making people feel welcome, then this shop will become their go to. Develop trust, admiration, live up to your claim–A fresh cut speaks for itself. Any work done with love will show."
