Two Howe Sound Secondary Leadership students are giving back to the community by donating care packages to Under One Roof.

“Your community is like someone who supports you forever. So, if something ever happens to you, you can always count on your community,” said Arlene Bassi.

This morning, Baljot Mann and Arlene Bassi, with the helping hands of their parents, delivered care packages for residents of Under One Roof.

They were granted $1,000 from United Way Lower Mainland for their cause.

The students asked Under One Roof for a list of what was needed this holiday season and used it to make care packages to fulfill those needs.

With the added help of locals, friends and businesses they were able to get supplies to create the care packages.

Mann and Bassi reached out to Save On Foods where the manager donated gift cards for their cause.

“We think that if we start something it will get bigger and bigger,” said Mann.

“It’s crazy how something small can kind of like connect you with a lot of people."

Tomorrow their efforts continue in giving back to the community.

They already had plans to help put up a temporary shelter in town before they received their grant and were going to use their own money to make the project happen.

They will be putting a pop-up warming tent with food behind the Squamish Public Library tomorrow morning, Dec. 23.
