The site is being readied for construction and now the board of directors from the Squamish Senior Citizens Home Society has announced the name of its new 232-unit affordable-housing development as “Westwinds."

"We are currently working on ground preparation for preloading," said Laura Modray, executive director

of the society in an email to The Chief, adding the project at 38275 Third Ave. will become the largest single residential building in Squamish upon completion.

"Once construction starts we anticipate a 24 to 30 month construction period.

A date for the formal ground-breaking ceremony has yet to be announced.

"Westwinds will be fully occupied quickly once complete as we have over 200 people on our waitlist and will be moving our current tenants over to Westwinds as well," she said.

Current residents at the society's 50-unit The Manor and at the 20-unit The Cedars will transfer to the new building. The property, also on Third Avenue, that these residences sit on was sold to Polygon Homes to fund the new development.
