The Prince George Spruce Kings have acquired another veteran forward with a U.S. college hockey future.

They’ve added 20-year-old Darwin Lakoduk in a trade with the Penticton Vees for future considerations.

Lakoduk, a five-foot-10, 167-pound native of Edmonton, is a veteran of 113 BCHL regular season games and 19 playoff games and his two-way ability earned him an NCAA Division 1 scholarship commitment to American International College beginning in 2021.

He joined the Vees 25 games into the 2019-20 season from the Victoria Grizzlies and in 34 games with Penticton he produced six goals and five assists. He totaled 11 goals and 12 assists in 59 games with the Vees and Grizzlies last season. Lakoduk also played five playoff games for Penticton, after adding 14 games to his BCHL playoff resume the previous season with the Grizzlies.

“Darwin is a tremendous young man who brings a great work ethic to the rink every day,” said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes, in a team release. “He is good in both ends of the ice and will be looked upon to provide leadership while playing in all situations for us this upcoming season.”

In other team news, centre Preston Brodziak became the second former Spruce King to sign with Long Island University.  Brodziak joined the Kings as an off-season acquisition last summer from the Cowichan Valley Capitals and proved his durability while contributing 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 56 games.

Brodziak will join former Spruce King captain Nolan Welsh, who last week signed a scholarship commitment to join Long Island U. Based in Brookville, N.Y., the Ducks heading into their inaugural NCAA Division 1 season this fall.
