Maria Mongomo's star quality is on the rise.

The 24-year-old UNBC Timberwolves point guard was named the Canada West Conference third star Tuesday after she led the T-wolves to back-to-back wins last weekend over the UBC-Okanagan Heat.

Mongomo, in her fifth season at UNBC, scored a season-high 35 points Friday in a 104-54 triumph over the Heat in Kelowna. She also racked up seven rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Then in the rematch Saturday, Mongomo collected 30 points, had 16 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

She will be back on her home court with the T-wolves on Friday at the Northern Sport Centre where UNBC plays the Brandon Bobcats in the first of a two-game weekend set.

University of Saskatchewan hockey player Jessica Vance was picked as the first star of the week and University of Manitoba volleyball player Emma Vance earned second star honours.
