Two Rivers Gallery hosting new exhibits

A virtual talk with Nicola Harwood will take place on Facebook Live Thursday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.

A virtual talk with Nicola Harwood will take place on Facebook Live Thursday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.

The talk will offer an introduction to Harwood's exhibition at the Two Rivers Gallery called Summoning (No Words), which is an interactive sound installation on the gallery's Facebook page.

The Summoning responds to violence against women and is built from the original vocal compositions of seven Canadian female artists from different traditions and cultures. The sound experience changes as the audience moves though the exhibition space and activates motion sensors. Voices emerge, overlap, build, crescendo and recede in an ever-changing interactive composition. This sung soundscape is layered on top of a bed of whispered audio contributed by community members. This includes poems, invocations and stories. Both meditative and disturbing, theatrical and immersive, Summoning (No Words) recalls the origins of artistic practice in community-based ritual and ceremony.

Because of the restrictions around COVID-19 there will be no opening reception at the gallery.

Another exhibit opening at the same time is Her Voice" Work by Women Artists from the Permanent Collection. The exhibit goest from July 31 to Oct. 4 and features work from several artists including Ruth Hansen, Betty Kovacic, Doris Dittaro, Anne Bogle, June Swanky Parker and Theresa Sapergia.

Because of the restrictions around COVID-19 there will be no opening reception at the gallery but the Two Rivers Gallery is open to the public.

The exhibit is open to the public on July 31 until Oct. 4.

Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. for those most at risk of COVID-19 and the general public is welcome from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New protocols are in place to ensure the safety of visitors and staff, including:

- occupancy limits to support physical distancing

- closure of public washrooms

- hand sanitizer stations and enhanced cleaning

- closure of second floor for creativity camp programming

- cancelation of in-person opening receptions for exhibitions
