A parade of planes will roar through the skies of northern B.C. on Saturday.

The Vanderhoof International Airshow Society unveiled the route for The Great Regional Air Hug of 2020 last week. Society president Glenn Pearce said at least 20 aircraft are expected to take part in the "parade in the sky."

"With the COVID we aren't able to hold our airshow and have people come to the airport to see the planes," Pearce said. "We wanted to bring something to the people."

The aircraft will depart Vanderhoof at noon, and should arrive in Prince George around 12:30 p.m., Pearce said.

Some of the aircraft are equipped with smoke projectors so, "they'll be highly visible from the ground," he said.

Some of the planes expected to take part include a Grumman G-73 Mallard amphibious plane, a Yakovlev Yak-18 Soviet training plane, a Chinese Nanchang CJ-6 military trainer and a couple of Harvard training aircraft, which were used by the Western Allies during the Second World War and beyond to train fighter pilots.

"As we know in aviation, weather is everything," Pearce said. "So hopefully we have some good weather on Saturday."
