Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps took a spin in a Solo three-wheeled electric car unveiled by the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in downtown Victoria on Tuesday. The one-seat car has a 160-kilometre range on a single charge and is part of the hotel’s My Stay My Car program, giving guests access to four environmentally friendly cars.

The fleet has two hybrid and two electric vehicles, and are available to guests for a $20 to $30 rental fee per night. Mark West of Electra Meccanica, which sells Solo cars, said they’re designed as a commuter car with low environmental impact.

The rentals are offered through Turo, a system where car owners provide travellers with vehicles in an arrangement similar to Airbnb for homes.

“This program is a good example of thinking beyond the traditional means of travel in our city,” Helps said.
