A return date has yet to be finalized for V2V Vacation’s Empress catamaran, but when it does come back into service it will only run four days a week.
The passenger ferry, which has been sidelined since mid-August with engine trouble, has been under repair at Point Hope shipyard.
The initial plan was to have service daily.
According to the company, both of the ship's engines will be replaced, which it says will provide increased reliability and speed for the vessel.
“There is currently no definite return date that has been specified other than the expectation of this being sometime in mid-to-late October,” the company said in a statement.
The re-launch in what will be an off-peak time of year means the company will revise its sailing schedule.
When it comes back into service, the 254-seat vessel will run between Victoria and Vancouver on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
The Empress will leave Vancouver at 9 a.m., arriving in Victoria at 12:30 p.m. and will leave Victoria at 1:30 p.m. arriving in Vancouver at 5 p.m.
“By making these improvements and replacements, we continue to show our commitment to safety and reliability above all else,” the company said.
