Tourism Victoria, WestJet partner to boost conference business

Tourism Victoria and WestJet Airlines are teaming up to further promote the capital region to tourists and business visitors, particularly in the conference sector.

Tourism Victoria and WestJet Airlines are teaming up to further promote the capital region to tourists and business visitors, particularly in the conference sector.

They have signed a partnership marketing agreement to “align marketing strategies,” a joint statement said Thursday.

Tourism Victoria has been responsible for sales and marketing year-round for the Victoria Conference Centre since 2016. The new partnership aims to focus on driving business here during the fall and winter months.

Paul Nursey, president and chief executive of Tourism Victoria, said conference hosting is an “increasingly competitive space and we need to maintain our momentum with agreements such as this.”

WestJet helps connect the capital region to the rest of the country, Nursey said.

Geoff Dickson, president and chief executive of the Victoria Airport Authority, said the conference centre partnership will help the airport to grow and contribute to Greater Victoria’s and B.C.’s economies. “Every full flight helps us promote air service and brings both jobs and economic benefit.”
