Andrew Hicik was appointed director of corporate services for the Town of Sidney this week, replacing Valla Tinney, who was named director of finance with the District of Saanich last month. Hicik had been Sidney's manager of finance for the past six years. His 20-year municipal career has included budgeting roles with the Township of Langley and the District of Lake Country. Hicik moved to the Island in 2002 as treasurer with the District of Metchosin, where he also served as acting chief administrative officer. "I have the utmost confidence in Mr. Hicik's abilities to perform the duties of director of corporate services," Sidney Mayor Larry Cross said in a statement. "His professionalism and attention to detail are qualities that I admire and see as essential to this role. He has also taken the initiative to bring in new methods of budget reporting that make this often difficult process easier for the general public, staff and council to understand." Cross said the town is recruiting to fill the manager of finance position.
