Issues that include a compromised global supply chain, damaged infrastructure and a labour shortage will mean some of Paper Excellence’s customers will have to wait for shipments of pulp and paper.

It could also lead to a delay in restarting the company’s Crofton mill.

The company, which has mills in Port Alberni and Crofton on Vancouver Island, has warned its customers that delivery delays should be expected.

The company noted that over the last few months, the supply chain, ports and carriers have felt the impact of pandemic-related disruptions like the labour shortage, dearth of available shipping containers, delayed carriers and port congestion.

The backlog was exacerbated by devastating flooding in B.C. this month that damaged roadways and railways the company relies on to move goods.

The company is also expecting production interruptions over the next month due to a shortage of fibre, which could influence the decision on when to restart operations at Crofton.

The mill is currently in the midst of a scheduled two-week production curtailment.
