Real estate agents Kirsten Marten and Mark Rice have acquired Coldwell Banker Slegg Realty. The company, with offices in Victoria and Nanaimo, has been renamed Coldwell Banker Oceanside Real Estate.

“Honesty, integrity and a spirit of giving back to the community will be hallmarks of our operation,” said Marten. “We’re excited about the new opportunities ahead for all of us.”

Marten and Rice will run the Douglas Street Coldwell Banker office across from Mayfair Mall.

The company will manage about 30 agents representing Coldwell Banker on Vancouver Island in Victoria, Qualicum Beach, Comox Valley, Campbell River and Nanaimo.

Shared office spaces opening

IWG will open two new shared workspace operations in Victoria this year.

Spaces, an Amsterdam-based shared-work environment, will open a 25,000-square-foot facility at Uptown this fall.

That is one of nine Canadian locations to be opened by IWG’s Spaces brand this year.

IWG, a global operator of workspace buildings, is also opening a 13,000-square-foot shared workspace location downtown at 535 Yates St. in August. That location will be operated by its Regus subsidiary.,

Developer joins B.C. Ferries board

British Columbia Ferry Services has named David Podmore to its board of directors.

Podmore, chairman of Concert Real Estate Corporation and chief executive of Concert Infrastructure, is well versed in the development of residential real estate and public infrastructure projects in Canada.

He played a key role in the development of plans for Vancouver’s bid to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The board has also re-elected Bruce Chan and P. Geoffrey Plant to serve as directors for a further term.

“Strong leadership at the board level ensures B.C. Ferries continues to deliver world-class ferry service with a focus on excellent financial results and forward-thinking project management,” said board chair Yuri Fulmer.

New faces for Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce

The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has added three new members to its board of directors for 2019 — Moira Hauk, regional manager for Coastal Community Credit Union, Paul van Koll, senior manager with KPMG, and Pedro Marquez, vice president of global advancement, marketing and business development for Royal Roads University. The rest of the board is made up of chair Dan Dagg, vice chair John Wilson, past chair Al Hasham, treasurer Kris Wirk, secretary Christina Clarke and directors Ian Batey, Jason Boyd, Carmen Charette, Lise Gyorkos and Rahim Khudabux.

Startup makes Narwhal list

A bitcoin start-up based in Victoria has been named to the list of the fastest-growing private tech companies in Canada. Blockstream, whose technology is integrated into most of the major bitcoin exchanges, has made the most recent Narwhal List, based on the amount of funding a firm has raised over the number of years it has been in existence.
