On the Street: Province appoints board members at Royal Roads

The provincial government has appointed Nelson Chan, Lydia Hwitsum and Lori Simcox to Royal Roads University’s board of governors.

The provincial government has appointed Nelson Chan, Lydia Hwitsum and Lori Simcox to Royal Roads University’s board of governors.

“Our new board members bring a wealth of varied and valuable experience to Royal Roads’ governance,” said chancellor Kathleen Birney. “I look forward to working with these distinguished professionals.”

Chan is the chief financial officer for the Capital Regional District and has extensive experience in strategic investment, business transformation and tactical implementation in the public and private sectors.

Hwitsum is a principal for Hwitsum Consulting and board chair of the First Nations Health Authority. She has previously served as the chief of the Cowichan Tribes and as the B.C. representative for the Assembly of First Nations National Women’s Council.

Simcox, a member of the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation, is a certified management consultant and has led consulting projects for the federal government and private business.

Wayne Strandlund is leaving the board after more than six years of service.

Storage companies have new name

Mill Bay and Keating Self Storage have new names. Owners Bonnie Campbell and Frank Wright have rebranded both companies as Rite Storage.

“All of us are looking forward to being a vital part of our communities,” said Wright. “We are going to be a brand that is trusted for our services and for our community involvement.”

In Mill Bay, Rite Storage is located at 1185 Shawnigan Lake-Mill Bay Rd., and offers drive-up units, temperature controlled units and storage for boats and vehicles. Rite Storage at Keating offers units ranging from less than 50 square feet to more than 190 square feet.

Marina concierge

Victoria International Marina has named Jennifer Belinski as the leader of its round-the-clock concierge service. Belinski has served as yacht crew on numerous private and charter yachts, travelled across the Atlantic Ocean eight times and participated in classic yacht regattas. The Inner Harbour marina is expected to open this summer.

On the move

The Oaklands Community Association has named Chris Holt executive director. Holt was previously executive director of Providence Farm, a therapeutic community for people with developmental disabilities. Holt’s career includes three decades of executive planning, administration, communications and marketing in the non-profit and tech sectors. He worked for almost a decade at the Victoria Cool Aid Society, before launching LogicLynx, a tech company that provided services for non-profit organizations.
