On the Street: New CEO at Monk Office

After 32 years with the company, Monk Office’s James McKenzie is stepping away from his role as president and chief executive. McKenzie will remain as an owner and continue to play a role as chairman of Monk’s advisory committee.

After 32 years with the company, Monk Office’s James McKenzie is stepping away from his role as president and chief executive. McKenzie will remain as an owner and continue to play a role as chairman of Monk’s advisory committee.

“Our commitment to promote a sustainable environment for our local community will remain strong to ensure a healthy and vibrant environment for years to come,” said McKenzie in a statement.

Mark Breslauer will join Monk as the new chief executive.

Breslauer has worked as a senior vice-president of marketing and operations at Winnipeg-based Princess Auto, and had been general manager of Shell Canada’s convenience retail business division.

Monk Office has been in the McKenzie family since Ron McKenzie acquired the business in the 1950s.

James McKenzie became the owner in 1982 and brought in partners Ross Hill in 1990 and Adam Taft in 2012.

New directors at therapy society

New directors for the Power to be Adventure Therapy Society are Brad Williams, Dr. Brian Sinclair, Deborah Irvine, Jeff Dallin, Michael Shannon and Pat Elemans.

The society works with youth and families needing support to learn about what they can accomplish through nature-based programs.

Downtown art shop re-opens

Artisans Lane in Huntingdon Manor is staging a re-opening at 309 Belleville St. on Saturday, between noon and 4 p.m. The shop will highlight a variety of artwork, hand-crafted natural cosmetics and local food. Local musicians will perform at the event.

New owner at Hilary’s Cheese

Hilary’s Cheese Company in Cowichan Bay was been purchased by Sonja Todd of Victoria. Todd is a graduate of Camosun College’s hotel and restaurant management program and also earned her second-level sommelier designation from the International Sommelier Guild.

Tender for fire system upgrade

The Greater Victoria School District is asking for tenders to upgrade the fire protection system at View Royal Elementary School. Bid deadline is May 30.
