On the Street: junk sellers, CFO moves, airport adds board member

Alison Belbin has acquired the 1-800-Got-Junk franchise for Greater Victoria and now operates the business on the entire Island. Belbin and husband Grant have owned the Nanaimo junk removal franchise since 2008 and expanded their territory to all major centres on the Island. The deal for Victoria was secured late last year from previous owner Tom Maryschak. Belbin, a mother of three, said the company has four trucks on the road, including two in Victoria, and is in the process of looking for a facility here to sort loads and grow the business. She has plans to get two more trucks on the road in the next 18 months.

On the move

Jonathan Norgaard has joined Cooper Pacific Mortgage Investment Corporation as chief financial officer. Norgaard was previously director of finance for B.C. Transit. Previous experience includes CFO of ACD Systems International, Oracle Corporation, where he oversaw global internal audit operations; and KPMG in Victoria, where he was a manager of audit and assurance. Cooper Pacific is a privately held investment firm based in Victoria.

Airport board adds member

Suromitra Sanatani has been appointed to the Victoria Airport Authority board of directors. She has a long history in law and corporate roles in the non-profit, public and private sectors, including vice-president of corporate and government relations, where she played a pivotal role in establishing Partnerships B.C., a Crown agency. Sanatani is is vice-chairwoman of the Royal B.C. Museum and a director of the Telus Victoria Community Board.

Tender time

Both the Greater Victoria School District and CFB Esquimalt want to replace or repair windows and have issued tenders for the work. The school district needs 187 windows for Lake Hill and Victoria West schools. The naval base has a standing offer for a three-year contract to repair and replace windows and glazing. It closes Feb. 12 ... Victoria’s newest architectural firm, Cascadia Architects, has submitted a rezoning and development permit application for The Clive. The project, at Clive Drive and Oak Bay Avenue, is a proposed three-storey building with 23 one- and two-bedroom rental units.
