On the Street: Floyd’s Diner painting it pink in Royal Oak

If there’s shocking-pink paint on the outside walls, another Floyd’s Diner is about to emerge. After some minor renovations, Floyd’s intends to open in late April at 4496 West Saanich Rd., in what was the Olive Grove restaurant in Royal Oak.

If there’s shocking-pink paint on the outside walls, another Floyd’s Diner is about to emerge. After some minor renovations, Floyd’s intends to open in late April at 4496 West Saanich Rd., in what was the Olive Grove restaurant in Royal Oak.

Floyd’s owner Petr Prusa said at 100 seats, the latest in his chain — this will be the third after James Bay and Langford — will likely be about the same size as his Quadra Street location, which closed for good in January after 15 years in business.

Prusa said the West Saanich Road location will also feature a shake shack, but that part will not open until after the restaurant is running.

GoodLife Fitness closing in Vic West, seeks new location

After 10 years in business, GoodLife Fitness has decided to close the doors on its Vic West gym, but the company vows to open a larger facility in its place at a new location. The last day of operations for the Vic West location will be July 26.

GoodLife chief executive David Patchell-Evans said the company is looking for new locations for both a GoodLife Fitness Club and a Fit4Less Club in Victoria.

“We are doing our very best to find a location that is two to three times bigger than the current Vic West location and has lots of parking so that we can provide an excellent experience for our members,” he said in an email.

“We purchased the Bala Club that formerly occupied our location on Tyee Road 10 years ago. We made modifications to the club location, but since we did not build it from the ground up, we decided to take the opportunity now, when our lease is expiring, to find an even better location to create a beautiful club that will satisfy the needs of our members,” Patchell-Evans said.

GoodLife has another Victoria location at the Bay Centre. Patchell-Evans said there are no plans for any other changes in the Victoria market at this time.
