Kinetic Construction, one of the Island’s largest contractors and a prolific builder of everything from commercial and residential projects to bridges and complicated civil structures, has a new president.

Pete White takes over daily operations from Kinetic founder Bill Gyles, who remains as the company’s chief executive.

White has more than 35 years in the industry and has spent the last 12 as Kinetic’s chief estimator and vice-president.

“I’m very excited to be taking over as president,” said White. “Bill has done an amazing job for 29 years leading Kinetic to where we are today. My job will be to continue this great work and to provide leadership as we move forward in this ever changing industry.”

Kinetic, which has 120 on its payroll and is employee owned, was established in 1984 by Gyles. Some of the company’s current projects include the Central Saanich Firehall and the Cowichan Valley Visitor Centre. The company has offices in Victoria, Courtenay and Richmond and has completed hundreds of construction projects all over B.C.

“Our employees made my job so easy,” said Giles. “We have an exceptional team with a great management group. I am confident Kinetic will continue to grow and prosper under Pete’s leadership.”

White has been construction manager for the Victoria Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games in Winnipeg, and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
