L.L. Bean opening its doors Aug. 20 at Mayfair shopping centre

American retailer L.L. Bean is opening its first store in B.C. on Aug. 20 at Mayfair Shopping Centre.

The Victoria store, at ­approximately 10,000 square feet, will sell outdoor-themed clothes and gear, such as ­paddleboards and camping ­supplies

B.C.’s second L.L. Bean store is set to open in October in ­Burnaby at the Amazing ­Brentwood shopping mall.

In September, the company is launching stores in Calgary and Darmouth, N.S.

The company’s retail partner the Jaytex Group, a Canadian firm, distributes L.L. Bean merchandise in Canada. L.L. Bean has opened stores in Ontario in Barrie, Oakville, Ottawa, Toronto and Vaughn

L.L.Bean’s website said it has a large and growing customer base in Canada.

“The continued success L.L.Bean has seen in Canada speaks to the inherent love our consumers have for the outdoors, and we look forward to equipping more Canadians for outdoor adventures at this new location,” said Howie Kastner, president of Jaytex Group.

The company is expanding as Canadian retailers watch and hope for economic ­recovery after a downturn due to the ­pandemic. Despite ­COVID-19, L.L. Bean said its most recent fiscal year returned the ­strongest results in a decade.

The company, based in ­Freeport, Maine, is known for its print and online ­catalogues.

In Maine, the 108-year-old company has a one million square foot facility where it processes an average of 45,000 orders daily. About 13 million packages were shipped last year, its website said.
