Surrey police are warning people of a new scam that offers discounts airfares to India via WhatsApp.

Surrey RCMP said that in recent weeks at least two victims reported having their credit card information stolen after trying to book what they believed were low-cost airline tickets via the WhatsApp messaging application.

In both cases, the victims saw advertising on Punjabi TV and newspapers offering low-cost flights between Vancouver and India. Interested individuals were then directed to share personal and credit-card information via WhatsApp to book.

Police said never share credit card information over smartphone apps to an unknown party.
