The Finishing Store, a mecca for woodworkers and contractors for decades, is closing its Topaz Avenue location in Victoria.

Owners George and Suzette Linger said the company’s landlord, U-Haul, is not renewing their lease and the store will close at the end of October after 37 years at 780 Topaz Ave.

U-Haul is expanding its footprint at the site along Blanshard Street due to an increase in business, the owners were told.

The Finishing Store will continue to operate, transferring its contract division to its other location, FS Millworks at 486 Cecelia Rd., in Victoria, where it has been manufacturing since 1987.

The Finishing Store will also continue operating at 4128 Mostar Rd. in Nanaimo.

“From either of those locations, we can provide service to our customers on the Island and the Mainland,” said George Linger.

He said the company has been fortunate to have a dedicated staff over the years.

Some are moving to the contract division while some are moving on.

“As we transition to a contractor-based business, we ask for your patience and understanding,” said Linger, adding inventory will be sold off at the Topaz location over the next two months.
