Once again, we are seeking applications for funding for literacy projects within the Times Colonist delivery area on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
The money is distributed by the Times Colonist Literacy Society using proceeds from the annual Times Colonist Book Drive. The provincial government provides additional funding through Decoda Literacy Solutions. This spring, grants totalling $270,000 were distributed to a record 214 recipients, mostly schools.
The backbone of the effort is the annual book sale. This year’s version, the first since 2019, raised $185,000.
We also had several donations, with the largest one coming from the Golf for Kids organization, which has supported our work for several years.
This year, Golf for Kids gave us $15,000.
Since the book drive was launched in 1998, a total of $6 million has been distributed to non-profit education and literacy organizations.
We are looking for projects and organizations with a clear focus on literacy work.
You can find a link to the application form here.
The application deadline is Nov. 30, 2022.
