Comox Valley RCMP say a woman’s fall from a second-storey hotel-room window in Courtenay on Tuesday was an accident.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit concluded nobody pushed the woman, who fell several metres.

RCMP had received a report that a woman had suffered serious injuries after being pushed from the window, but investigators determined that wasn’t the case after gathering surveillance footage and witness statements.

“After a careful review of the evidence, it was apparent that the woman had fallen and was not pushed,” the RCMP said.

Const. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP said some people in the community believe the woman was pushed from the window, cautioning that “any acts of vigilantism will be subject to their own investigation.”

The woman remains in hospital and is expected to recover.
