Nanaimo RCMP have identified the 34-year-old man arrested last week for allegedly making several 911 calls about a fictitious shooting at Fairview Elementary School and Nanaimo and District Secondary School.

Aaron Edward Craig has been charged with public mischief, breach of a court order and breach of probation in connection with the case. The breach counts are for violating release conditions on charges already before the courts.

Craig has been remanded in custody until Nov. 2.

The secondary school went into lockdown as a result of the calls, while students at the elementary school had already been dismissed due to parent-teacher interviews.

The arrest was made within an hour of the call after police used cellphone technology and police databases to track down the suspect.
