Victoria police arrested a man who fled the scene of a crash Thursday evening at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Moss Street, in a suspected case of impaired driving.

Police say they received several calls reporting a collision involving three vehicles around 6 p.m. Thursday. Two people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle who caused the collision refused to exit his vehicle and drove away, police said. Witnesses recorded the vehicle, licence plate and a description of the driver.

Shortly after, officers found a man matching the description at a nearby address. He showed “clear signs of alcohol impairment” and officers arrested him.

Police say the two breath samples the man gave “well exceeded” the legal limit.

He was released with a driving prohibition and recommended charges for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and two impaired-driving charges.

Anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken with police is asked to call VicPD at 250-995-7654, extension 1.
