Faculty members at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops have ratified a two-year contract by a vote of more than 90 per cent.
The collective agreement provides for two-per-cent salary increases in each of the two years and will be fully retroactive to April 2012, when the last contract expired.
Wages, however, weren’t the priority at the bargaining table over the past nine months of negotiation, said John Turner, chief negotiator for the TRU Faculty Association.
“We were offered that last year and faculty decided there were deeper concerns,” Turner said.
Those included achieving contract gains for sessional and limited-term staff in the form of job security, as well as gains for departmental chairs, instructional support co-ordinators, professional allowances and bereaved members.
Turner said he expected the contract would receive overwhelming endorsement.
