Vancouver Police are investigating the city’s 18th pedestrian fatality of the year.

They say a 59-year-old man was hit by a car in East Vancouver Saturday evening and was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Investigators say they believe the man was crossing Kingsway, near St. Catherines Street, around 7 p.m. when he was struck by the westbound vehicle.

They say the driver remained at the scene and that speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the incident.

The victim's identity has not yet been released, and police are still working to determine the cause of the collision.

They're asking anyone who witnessed it or has dash-cam video to contact them.
