‘Extremely concerning’: Five men shot in 24 hours in B.C. city

Five people are injured from gunfire after two separate and targeted shootings in Abbotsford.

Police in Abbotsford are investigating two separate shootings that left five men injured from gunfire.

The two shootings took place within 24 hours of each other and about 10 kilometres apart.

Around 7:42 p.m. on Saturday, Abbotsford police officers responded to 28700 King Road, near the airport, to investigate a shooting. Once on scene, they found four men who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Then on Sunday at 6:30 p.m., police responded to 27800 Pullman Avenue for a shooting. Once there, they located a man with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Paul Walker says the two shootings are not connected.

“Two shootings in a community in 24 hours is two too many,” he says. “It’s extremely concerning to us to have this level of violence in our community.”

The four men from the shooting on Saturday were transported to hospital and police believe the shooting to be targeted.

“This is rare to have two shootings back to back like this in a very significant amount of time,” says Walker.

Investigators have been able to determine a house in the 27900-block Fraser Highway is connected to the Pullman Avenue shooting on Sunday.

“That house right now is being secured by police. We are awaiting judicial authorization to execute a search order there later today and continue to further advance the investigation,” says Walker.

Sunday night’s shooting is not connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict, he adds.

“The incident on Saturday night is still under investigation,” says Walker. “Investigators are working through that to determine if it’s connected to anything that we’re seeing, but we’re not able to make that connection to gang conflict at this point.”

Police are appealing to the public to come forward if they witnessed either incident or have dash camera footage.

“I know anytime we have this kind of violence in the community, the public is rightfully concerned, and especially if it’s in their backyard, in their neighborhood, rest assured that we are doing everything possible to hold the people responsible for these two individual shootings, and to continue to maintain public safety in Abbotsford,” says Walker.

Investigators are looking for dash camera footage from King Road between 7 and 8:30 p.m. They’re also seeking footage from Fraser Highway, between Station Road and Bradner Road, and along Lefeuvre Road, between Downes Road and Swensson Avenue, between 5:30 and 7 p.m.

Witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage is asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-869-5225.
