B.C. reported 715 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, down slightly from the seven-day rolling average of 753 in late September but creeping up from the low of 563 a week ago.

On Thursday, there were 4,965 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 377 individuals in hospital, including 136 in intensive care.

Island Health reported 61 new cases on Thursday — about the same as last week but down from a peak of 91 on Oct. 8. The total active case count on the Island is 504, including 52 in hospital, of whom 24 are in intensive care.

Fraser Health has almost 2,000 active cases and comparably sized Interior Health has 808 active cases.

Four new deaths were reported on Thursday, all in Northern Health, which is under regional restrictions due to large outbreaks in areas with low vaccination rates. There are 937 active cases in that health authority.

Eighty-three per cent of eligible people age 12 and older are fully vaccinated in B.C.

There are 26 active outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities as well as hospitals, including Tofino General Hospital in the Island Health region.

From Oct. 6-19, there were 445 people hospitalized with COVID-19, of whom 70.6 per cent were not vaccinated, 5.6 per cent were vaccinated with one dose, and 23.8 per cent were fully vaccinated.
