Letter: Future belongs to them

What is even more disturbing than the breakdown of our ecological world is the wholesale breakdown of civility that non-children (by virtue of birth year only) are expressing toward our youth [“ Editorial: Taking action ,” September 20].
Powell River Peak letter

What is even more disturbing than the breakdown of our ecological world is the wholesale breakdown of civility that non-children (by virtue of birth year only) are expressing toward our youth [“Editorial: Taking action,” September 20].

Labelling today’s youth as “idiot kids” and “hypocrites” for using the very items that we furnish them with makes us fully complicit in the hypocrisy. What our youth of today need more than anything to help all of us navigate our way through this crisis is guidance and support from adults.

Our youth have spent their lifetime mimicking our behaviour. Now it is our turn to mimic theirs. The era of the outdated misogynistic adage “father knows best” no longer applies. The youth of today are tapped into the truth and possess far more wisdom than we give them credit for.

We need to stand with them; or we need to get out of their way. After all, it is their future. Ours, not so much.
