From coaches to coordinators, it takes a collective effort of 80 volunteers to run the Delta chapter of Special Olympics B.C.

It’s volunteers who fuel the success of the Delta chapter of Special Olympics B.C. and there is always the need for more in a variety of capacities.

Delta SOBC provides 14 programs year-round for 84 athletes and it takes a collective effort of 80 volunteers for the organization to thrive on and off the athletic field.

The Delta chapter is currently looking for a registration coordinator, fundraising coordinator and a community relations coordinator. That’s in addition to the coaches required to lead the athletes in the variety of sports.

“Special Olympics Delta is very grateful for the support of our organization and goals,” said local coordinator Jodi Cobden. “ We are currently looking for passionate, dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team.

“Special Olympics changes lives, hearts, and minds through the transformative power and joy of sports. Through our year-round sport and youth programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities our athletes become accepted and valued members of their communities, and help lead the way to a more respectful and inclusive society for all.”

All Special Olympic local chapters are responsible for raising their own annual operating expenses including: uniforms, sports equipment, facility rentals, coach/volunteer training and competition/travel expenses.

“Special Olympics Delta is very grateful for the support of our organization and goals. Your contributions go a long way to ensuring we are able to provide our athletes and coaches everything they need to be successful,” added Cobin.

The B.C. Special Olympics mandate is to provide individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to enrich their lives and celebrate personal achievement through positive sports experiences.
