Would you like to be an artist in residence at The Gallery at Queen’s Park in the new year?

The Arts Council of New Westminster is currently accepting applications from both established and emerging artists, living and/or working in New Westminster, for a 2020 artist-in-residence program.

Because it is intended as an artist development program, you do not need to be an established artist; no previous experience is expected.

The arts council operates the gallery in Centennial Lodge, Queen’s Park, with exhibitions that change monthly. Now it wants to provide artists and local, not-for-profit arts organizations with the chance to use the Lower Studio space in the gallery, for free, in exchange for a weekly public programming event to engage the community.

A call for proposals notes that the arts council wants to highlight the diversity of the community, to break down exclusionary barriers and to provide a platform for marginalized voices, so LGBTQ and non-binary artists, artists of colour, Indigenous artists and disabled artists are strongly encouraged to submit.

Submissions must be made by 4 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2020, and preliminary decisions are expected to be announced by Feb. 28.

Full information about the artist-in-residence program, including submission details, can be found at www.acnw.ca (under News).
