View Royal Fire Department firefighters needed soap, not water, to deal with an unusual emergency on Wednesday afternoon.
“I’ve never seen a call like that one before,” said Fire Chief Paul Hurst.
A boy of about seven or eight dropped his iPod into a crack between rocks that make up a retaining wall on Esquimalt First Nation land near Esquimalt Harbour.
When the boy tried to retrieve his iPod, he got stuck between three big rocks, Hurst said.
“When we got there his shoulders and his head were sticking out of the rocks,” he said.
The firefighters used a big can of soap used to wash fire trucks to lubricate the trapped boy.
“We slid him right out,” Hurst said.
The boy was frightened but not hurt in the incident.
