One of the biggest rock bands in the world is eyeing rehearsal spots for its upcoming tour and the list includes Victoria, according to one report.
A blog post published Friday on The Province website puts U2 in Victoria next month for a run of pre-tour rehearsals. But according to concert industry insiders contacted by the Times Colonist, plans for the group to hold private rehearsals at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre are not set.
An arena spokesman had no comment. But a local crew person, who works on most of the concerts at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre and would likely be hired to work at any U2 rehearsals, said the arena had not been booked by the band’s management.
A Vancouver-based concert production veteran, who has worked on U2 tours in the past, said Victoria is not likely on U2’s radar. “If they were coming in for a rehearsal, I would have heard about it,” he said.
The Blanshard Street arena has been used in a pre-production capacity by acts including Nickelback and Mötley Crüe .
U2 is working on a new recording and is expected to tour the world this year. Any tour to support the recording will likely stop in Vancouver.
