A 30-year-old woman accused of stealing a dog she once owned was remanded in custody after a court appearance in Victoria provincial court on Friday.
The husky cross, named Timber by its new owners, was taken from Erica Marie Wilchuk during a police investigation. The dog was turned in to the SPCA and adopted by a family in Saanich.
Wilchuk, who is of no fixed address but typically lives in Squamish and Whistler, is charged with the theft of a dog on April 23 from the family’s home. She is also charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling house and possession of stolen property, the dog.
Wilchuk also faces a charge of breach of an undertaking after she allegedly returned to the Saanich home on May 2 looking for the dog. She was later arrested at the Victoria SPCA. Wilchuk returns to court on Wednesday to enter a plea.
