Giant snails invade Miami

No one knows how they got there. But an invasion of African giant snails has southern Florida in a panic over potential crop damage, disease and yuckiness surrounding the slimy gastropods.

The race is on to discover life in the most remote and extreme environment known on Earth. Russia has set the pace, piercing through Antarctica's icy crust to reach a freshwater lake to try to find ancient or new kinds of life.

Panda-monium is heading to Canada. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Chinese President Hu Jintao announced Thursday that Canada and China are finalizing details on an agreement that would see the Chinese loan two giant pandas to zoos in Calgary and Toronto for a period of five years each.
