A 30-year-old man struck by a car on a busy section of Pandora Avenue was issued a violation ticket by Victoria Police for failing to yield to a vehicle.

Around 7:30 a.m. the man attempted to cross Pandora Avenue in front of McDonald’s – between Quadra and Vancouver streets. Police say he had been drinking.

The man was hit by a red Volkswagen Jetta, driven west by a 27-year-old Oak Bay resident.

Witnesses told Victoria Police he’d crossed in front of the on-coming vehicle. He was taken to Victoria General Hospital with minor injuries.

Victoria police and fire kept the section of Pandora Avenue closed until about 9:30 to investigate the accident scene.

The accident occurred just a few metres away from a make-shift memorial that marks the spot where 20-year-old Ariana May Simpson was struck and killed by a bus last February.

Just over a block away is the spot where 38-year-old Maureen Firth was hit and killed crossing the street in October, 2009.
