Here are two gin drinks to serve to family and friends over the holiday season. Keep the recipes on hand — they would also be great to serve any time the weather is chilly.

Both recipes were created by Toronto mixologist Christina Kuypers, who is vice-president of the Ontario chapter of the Canadian Professional Bartenders Association.

Hot Gin Toddy

Not your average tea with lemon and honey. This toddy is a fine companion while sitting by the fire. It can also be made ahead of time, which makes it easy for entertaining.

Makes: 1 serving.

1 1/2 oz gin

3 1/2 oz chamomile tea, steeped strong

3/4 oz lemon juice

1/2 oz honey

n Lemon zest

To a snifter, add gin, chamomile tea, lemon juice and honey. Stir. Express lemon oils over the surface and garnish with zest.

Ginger Snap

This simple yet flavourful cocktail is excellent for entertaining. It contains a refreshing mix of ginger, pear and lime.

Makes: 1 serving.

2 oz gin

1 oz pear nectar

3/4 oz lime juice

n Ice

1 1/2 oz ginger beer

n Candied ginger

To a Collins glass, add gin, pear nectar and lime juice. Fill glass with ice and stir contents to combine. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with a piece of candied ginger on a skewer and serve with a long straw.
