ARE, Sweden - World Cup slalom champion Marlies Schild has withdrawn from Thursday's race in Are after she injured herself during a crash in training only hours beforehand.

Schild hurt her right knee and her back, and returned to Austria to have the knee checked in a hospital in Innsbruck.

"I caught a bump and landed on my back, while the ski hurt my knee when I rolled over. Right now, my right knee and my back hurt," Schild said in statement released by the Austrian ski federation.

Schild, also the slalom world champion, is sixth in the World Cup slalom standings.
